Marc Seaman

Chair, National Director of Corporate and Public Affairs, Microsoft

Since joining Microsoft Canada in 2004, Marc Seaman has held the position of National Director of Corporate and Public Affairs, including responsibility for leading and managing Corporate Communications and Citizenship across Canada. Prior to joining Microsoft, Marc worked in the consulting industry for six years as a Managing Partner of APCO Worldwide’s Canadian office, and as Vice-President and National Practice Group Leader for GPC-Fleishman Hillard. Marc also worked in marketing management roles for both the Ottawa Senators and the Ottawa Rough Riders in the 1990s.

Marc was appointed Chair of the Board of Directors for the Ottawa Convention Centre in December 2013 and is a member of the Board of Governors for The Ottawa Hospital. He served on the Board of Governors of the University of Ottawa from 2001 to 2006, including serving on its Executive Committee and as Chair of its Communications and External Relations Committee. He was a member of the United Way Ottawa Cabinet from 2005 to 2007, and was the inaugural Chair of its Next Generation Division. Marc was a member of the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada from 2006-2009 and a member of the Board of Directors for Westboro Academy from 2005-2009.

Marc was recognized as Manager of the Year for Microsoft Canada in 2007 and was awarded the J. Elder Award as Microsoft’s Leader of the Year in 2009. His professional achievements have earned him the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Award of Excellence for Marketing as well as the Capitale Excel Award for Communications. He was a recipient of Ottawa’s 40 under 40 by the Ottawa Business Journal in 2007. Fluently bilingual, Marc holds a Bachelors Degree in Communications from the University of Ottawa

Bernie Ashe

Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group

In January 2013, Bernie was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group overseeing all facets of OSEG’s operations, including sports franchises, entertainment business and Lansdowne Park operations.  Prior to joining OSEG, Bernie served as CEO of Kott Group, a private company in the supply and installation of lumber and related products to the Homebuilding Industry.  KOTT Group consists of eight businesses operating in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal with export businesses selling to the U.S. and internationally. Bernie has also served as President & CEO of AiT, now 3M-AiT Ltd, a TSX-listed company providing solutions for traveler identity and border control.  He was also the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for the Ottawa Senators from 1991 – 1997.  A trustee of CHEO for 15 years, Bernie also served as a Board member for the Canadian Advanced Technology Association and Decision Academics Inc.  Bernie is currently a member of the Mayor’s Leadership Table on Homelessness and resides in Ottawa with his wife Nancy and their three children.

Dick Brown

Dick began his career with Carleton University in 1966 and remained fiercely loyal to the school until his retirement in 1999.  During his time at Carleton, Dick served as Assistant Dean of Students, coach of the Ravens basketball team, Director of Student Housing and Food Services, as well as Director of Human Resources for 18 years.  Following his retirement, Dick joined the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association (OGHA) as their first Executive Director and continues to serve as President.  In this role Dick helped establish the very successful Destination Marketing Fee program which generates some $7M in support of Ottawa’s tourism industry.  Over the years Dick has been a key player in many business and community service activities, including the Ottawa Business Journal Editorial Board, the City of Ottawa Business Advisory Committee, the Ontario Restaurant Hotel Motel Association Board of Directors and the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors.

Mona Fortier

Mona Fortier has worked in the public, private, and community sectors for more than twenty years and currently is leading a new consulting firm in strategic communications. Recently, she was Chief Director of Communications and Market Development at La Cité College, where she had been working since 2008 and was previously Executive Vice-President of Equinox Public Affairs. With several years of experience in strategic communications and project management under her belt, she possesses outstanding expertise in brand management, media relations, public relations and in business development.

A graduate of the University of Ottawa, Ms. Fortier holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences (with a major in Sociology). She has made a name for herself with her organizational, strategic, and managerial leadership, as well as her results-oriented management style.

Adding to her expertise and talents, Ms. Fortier has, over the years, built up an impressive network of contacts that she is continually adding to through her personal and professional activities. She is actively and voluntarily contributing to several organizations at a regional, provincial, and federal level.  Deeply involved in her community, she is currently a board member of the Montfort Hospital (as Secretary) and chair of Santé Montfort. She is also serves on the board of the Shaw Centre and is member of the Provincial Advisory Committee on Francophone Affairs.  Ms. Fortier has been honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Young Achiever’s Award from the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management.

Richard Patten

Richard Patten is the former MPP for Ottawa Centre, having served from 1987 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 2007.  He was Ontario’s Minister of Government Services from 1987 to 1989 and Ontario’s Minister of Correctional Services from 1989 to 1990.  During his 5 years out of government, he was the President of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Eastern Ontario.  Under his guidance, the children’s hospital first Research facility was built, which attracted doctors from around the world. 

Before entering public life, Mr. Patten had an extensive career in Canada and abroad, working with the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA). He also served as President to the Canadian Council for International Cooperation.

Upon leaving politics, Richard began working as a consultant with Plasco Energy Group in Ottawa and a couple of other young companies, mainly in the environmental and innovative area.  At present, Richard acts as a special advisor to a literacy organization called Arrowmight.

Though Richard contributed immensely to his community through his public service, it is his volunteer efforts that have had the greatest impact. Upon leaving government, Richard established the Richard Patten Aboriginal Student Bursary to help alleviate some of the financial barriers preventing Aboriginal students from getting a post-secondary education. He also worked with the Canadian Council for the Blind to help develop employment training programs to ensure that their clients had the skills they needed to succeed in a competitive work place.

In addition to those roles, Richard presently fundraises for the Wabano Aboriginal Community Health Centre, serves on the Algonquin College Advisory Committee on Aboriginal Student Access, is a Founding Board Member of the Lord Stanley Commemoration Group and is a Board Member of the Institute for Mental Health Research and the Ottawa Botanical Garden Society.  Finally, Richard is on the Board of the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre.

Richard and his wife Penny have two wonderful children and four beautiful grandchildren.

Annie HillAnnie Hillis

Annie Hillis is passionate about building and supporting vibrant and creative urban communities. For 25 years she has worked to make cities better through innovative place-making, bold ideas and collaborative leadership.

From 2008 to 2013, Annie was the founding Executive Director of the Wellington West Business Improvement Area, where she steered the growth of one of Ottawa’s largest commercial areas. During her tenure, WWBIA was awarded the Ontario BIAs Association marketing award, a City of Ottawa urban design award, and Causeway’s volunteer of the year award.
Previously, Annie played a key role in developing and launching several acclaimed creative space projects, notably the Centre for Social Innovation (Toronto), Artscape Wychwood Barns (Toronto), Centre Culturel Lézarts Loco (Val-David, Quebec) and the Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre (Ottawa).
Born in Toronto and raised in Costa Rica, Annie received a degree from Trent University before heading west to work at The Banff Centre, where she spent 5 years. She later worked in Vancouver for several arts organizations, including the City of Vancouver’s Public Art Program, Presentation House Gallery and the North Vancouver Community Arts Council.
Annie has lived in Ottawa with her husband John and their two children since 2006. As the Chair of the Somerset West Community Health Centre, she has helped to build the organization’s second facility in Hintonburg, which will open in 2014. She currently works on the public art commissions for Ottawa's Light Rail Transit project.

Maria Ricci

For nearly 30 years, Maria Ricci has worked as a professional consultant in the areas of marketing, fund raising and event planning.  Her client base has spanned across Ontario and has included a diverse number of charitable and cultural organizations such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Canadian Mental Health, and Community Living, associations along with Philharmonic Choirs and Art Galleries.

A graduate of the School of Business at Queen’s University, she has employed her business acumen with practical experience to create some of the largest projects and events within the cities she has served.  In 2013, Maria received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her outstanding volunteer contributions to numerous charities throughout Ontario.   

Maria has served as Co-Chair of Fundraising for Villa Marconi Long-Term Care Centre and was Founder of its “Raising the Roof Corporate Gala”, one of the largest and most prestigious fund raising events in Ottawa.  In 2008, she was the originator and organizer of a successful World Record that took part during an annual event that she founded and Chaired called “ItalFest”. She has also served on the Board of Directors as Board Secretary for the Kiwanis Club of Orleans and as Board Secretary, Chair of Advertising, and Chair of Fundraising for the Gloucester Fair.  To date, she remains actively involved in community endeavours that improve the quality of life for the residents of Ottawa and Ontarians.

David W. Scott, O.C., Q.C.

Co-Chair, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP

Mr. Scott was called to the Ontario Bar in 1962 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1976. In 2011, he was invested as an Officer in the Order of Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola College, University of Montreal, and studied law at the University of Ottawa. Mr. Scott was a Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada from 1991 to 1999. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1984 and served as the first Canadian President of the College in 2003-2004. In 1988, he occupied the Milvain Chair in Advocacy at the University of Calgary Law School and in 2009, the Silas Hylak Chair in Advocacy at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law. In 1999, Mr. Scott was awarded the Advocates' Society Medal and received honorary degrees from the University of Ottawa and the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2001. In 2005, Mr. Scott was awarded the OBA Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation. He currently sits on the Boards of Operation Come Home and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and has served on the Boards of the United Way, the John Howard Society, the Ottawa General Hospital and the Canadian Stroke Network. He was the Chair of Pro Bono Law Ontario from 2008-2010. In 2010, Mr. Scott received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Pro Bono from Lexpert and in 2012, he was awarded the Lexpert Zenith Award: Celebrating Leadership. Mr. Scott is a member of Pro Bono Canada and in 2014 was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Shaw Centre. He is also a member of the Honorary Council of the Canadian Centre for International Justice.

Jean LalandeJean Lalande

Jean Lalande is General Manager, Corporate Development for Canada Post. Since 2000, he has been responsible for the development of strategic business opportunities with external organizations including acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, alliances and divestitures. As such, he is the lead for the assessment including strategic fit, the due diligence, the negotiations, the structuring and for getting approval of potential deals. He also led various dispute resolution processes to address important business and shareholder issues.

Jean joined Canada Post in 1989 and held roles in Finance, Commercial Operations and Corporate Development. Prior to that date, Jean worked at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton in the areas of assurance, insolvency and turnaround.

Jean graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and holds the designation of CPA, CGA. He has also completed the Queen’s School of Business Executive Development Program and the Fundamentals of Governance at McGill Executive Institute.

Mathieu FleuryMathieu Fleury

Mathieu Fleury was born and raised in Ottawa. He attended Francojeunesse Elementary Public School and Franco-Cité Catholic High School before graduating at the University of Ottawa where he received both his MHK concentration in Sports Management and BSc specialization in Human Kinetics.

Mathieu has a diverse background in physical activity and health. For the past 10 years, he worked for the City of Ottawa in Recreation and Culture serving the public as a lifeguard supervisor, advanced swimming instructor, and as well as camp and aquatic program coordinator. Besides front-line experience at the local level, he was an intern for the Minister of State (Sport) where he was involved in both sports policy and Canada’s position in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games project. Growing up and having been involved with Sandy Hill Minor Hockey Association, le Patro d’Ottawa, and other local community centres along with working for Tim Horton Children’s Foundation Camp, one of his passions includes working with youth and children. He also volunteered for a variety of national sports organizations including the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canada Women’s National Baseball Team, Volleyball Canada and Diving Canada. Overall, his commitment in life is to lead by example and help others to embark on healthier and more active lives in our community.

Mathieu is an avid cyclist, runner, snowboarder, and cross-country skier.
