The Shaw Centre is a strong advocate for environmental respect, conservation, and sustainable living. This centre is a green building demonstration to visitors as well as a visible landmark for sustainability in Ottawa.
Shaw Centre is a LEED Gold certified building. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a green building rating system administered by the non-profit Canada Green Building Council. There are 70 possible LEED points achievable in six categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources and Innovation and Design.
The Shaw Centre has achieved AIPC Quality Standards Gold Certification with the successful completion of an audit by the designated external auditor for AIPC (International Association of Congress Centres).
Shaw Centre joins an exclusive group of convention centres worldwide that have successfully achieved this level of international certification. In 2014, Shaw Centre was named one of the top 3 Convention Centres in the world by AIPC.
