You are invited to the Ottawa Black History Month Launch & Opening Ceremony! For the 2020 Black History Month, the people of Ottawa can look forward to several wonderful events, highlighting the many achievements and valuable contributions made by people of African descent, to science, world history, culture and civilizations. To launch the 2020 Black History Month observance in Canada’s capital, Black History Ottawa has teamed up with various associations to present the Launch & Opening Ceremony.
Focusing on the theme “The United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent: Creating a New Dynamic!", to advance the spirit and intention of the U.N. Decade of People of African Descent (2015-2024)., the afternoon’s program will reflect the linguistic and cultural diversity of Ottawa’s Black community. It will include the presentation of the 2020 Black History Month proclamation by Mayor Jim Watson, the official unveiling of the 2020 Canada Post Black History Month stamp, remarks from dignitaries, as well as live performances by local artists. As well, a number of individuals will receive the Black History Ottawa Community Builder Awards.

The Canadian Culinary Championships is the grand finale of Canada’s Great Kitchen Party events that are held annually in the fall. Staged in twelve cities, the events are a celebration of the pillars of Canadian culture – sport, music and food with a purpose of providing young Canadians the opportunity to be extraordinary in the same pillars. High performing athletes are provided the support they need to compete on the world stage. Musical instruments are purchased for schools, enabling students to discover the magic of music. And kids learn from leading Canadian chefs how to grow, cook and share healthy food addressing food security for all youth. Canada’s Great Kitchen Party and the Canadian Culinary Championships support B2ten, MusiCounts and Community Food Centres Canada.
In each of the twelve cities, 8 – 10 chefs compete with a dish of their choice paired with a Canadian wine, beer or spirit. To be invited to compete locally is a notch in the belt. To get on the podium is very difficult. To win gold is a major achievement! To be crowned the top chef in Canada at the Canadian Culinary Championships is a career changer!

An event that includes four days of working sessions and networking, Sections Congress involves hundreds of delegates from all ten Regions. At Congress, they learn how to utilize the resources of IEEE to maximize their effectiveness as IEEE volunteer leaders. Workshop, panel, and tutorial sessions are held on topics of interest to the Sections. Sections Congress is the one major meeting sponsored by IEEE that brings together the grassroots leadership of IEEE so that they can share ideas, concerns, and solutions.
